Are you ready?
This website is about how to handle both day-to-day emergencies — like being locked out of your house or finding a leak under your sink — and large-scale emergencies such as natural disasters. Knowing what can be done is the key to taking effective action rather than freezing up and being at the mercy of events.
Three ways to get ready
A simple pathway: make a plan before stress hits, learn from real scenarios, then gather the supplies that fit your situation.
Have a plan
You need a plan in order to know what to do when you are faced with an emergency. Trying to think of what actions need to be taken during the stress of the moment frequently leads people to freeze or make bad decisions.
Get the know-how
We want to provide the knowledge needed to handle a wide range of urgent and emergency situations. Discussions of actual events, where possible, help you build a game plan for similar situations. Illustrations and video links give more insight on what is needed. Various ways to handle the problem, along with pros and cons of each solution, are offered so you may choose the best solutions for your situation.
Find supplies
There is a Supplies Locator page which shows you where to find supplies, tools and complete kits that you should have to handle different emergencies. Many of them you can assemble on your own for far less money than what the commercial kits want. Product links are also provided so you can see commercial solutions that are good values for your money.
Supplies LocatorWhen you know what needs to be done
or even better, have a specific plan,
you will be better able to take
effective action immediately!
