Family Rally Points

You've decided to evacuate to the Bug-Out Location — but what if family members aren't home yet? Rally Points are places to wait, regroup, and leave Message Drops if you must move on.

Keep moving through the plan

Rally Points keep separated family members coordinated without requiring perfect cell service at every moment.  - Grandpa TJ -

How Rally Points work

Start with at least one destination and primary/backup routes. Place the first Rally Point just outside the immediate neighborhood. Space follow-on points along the routes at key locations, and mark Message Drops at each.

Rally Point versus Meet-Up

A Rally Point is similar to a Family Meet-Up — both are places to rest, regroup and plan. The difference: a Meet-Up is a destination; Rally Points are waypoints on the way to your destination.

Waiting for others

How long you wait depends on conditions. Always leave a Message Drop so those following know when you left — they can decide whether to push ahead or wait for missing members.

Signs and Notes

A Message Drop sign is an easy-to-draw unique symbol (like a simple Kilroy Was Here) where family can see it quickly. Notes should avoid specifics a stranger could use — e.g. P, K & R heading to Rally Pt 2 at 3:30pm Tuesday. Everyone OK. instead of naming the final cabin.

Family members arriving later

When Uncle Bob arrives, the sign and note tell him who is ahead and by how much. He can update: B to Rally 2 at 5pm. Sprained ankle slowing me down. When Dad arrives at 5:30, he knows everyone else is ahead.
