Destroy the Lock

Whether you are locked out of a cabinet, a room, or your entire house, drilling the locking mechanism is the most common method to open any keyed lock. It's usually the first choice of locksmiths because it's fast and reliable. Then they just install a new lock that they have with them, but the DIY you may not have a spare lock handy and you may not want to have an open door.

Drilling gets you in without wrecking the door — but plan on replacing the lockset afterward so the door is once again secure. - Grandpa TJ -
